Fat is an essential macroelement without which a normal functioning of the body is impossible. Any balanced diet as anti-obesity treatment involves consumption of different types of fats and other macroelements.Fats (lipids) play an important biological role in the main processes of the body. Fats are needed for building cells, tissues and organs in our bodies. Lipids regulate penetration of macro- and microelements into a cell and participate in removal of processed substances from cells.

Fats play the major energetic role in the body. They contain two times more energy than proteins and carbohydrates do (about 9 kcal per 1g). Negative role of fats is in their fast transformation into fat deposits.

  • Lipids are a rich source of essential amino acids that are not synthesized in the body.

In addition, fats (triglycerides) contain vitamins D, E and K. These fat-soluble vitamins can be absorbed and transported only when combined with fats.

Depending on the body weight, a person is recommended to consume 50-100 g of lipids per day.

Fats should provide 20-30% of daily energy for the body. Triglycerides are slowly digested in the stomach, thereby causing a prolonged satiety.

In fact, taste and flavor of foods depend on the amount of lipids. Due to this property of fats, many overweight patients find it hard to change their diet and start making healthy choices. Please note that it is impossible to become slim fast without reducing lipids in your daily diet.

Without triglycerides, your body protective functions are weakened. Nutritionists and experts in the field of nutrition recommend the following rate of fats:

1/3 saturated fatty acids (found in animal fat).
2/3 unsaturated fatty acids (found in vegetable oils).

The quality of lipids (biological value) is determined by the contents, the amount of cholesterol and phospholipids. The largest amount of cholesterol and phospholipids is found in vegetable oils, caviar, beans, eggs, cheese, liver and butter.
